Our group picked one of Morrie’s quotes, which is ‘Learn to forgive yourself and to forgive others’. We all agree with this statement without any hesitations. Everyone will make mistakes which sometimes are even irrecoverable. So, what’s the use of blaming yourself and others? This will only lead to conflicts and troubles. Then, what should we do when we face this kind of problems? Let’s see our group’s view.
Once someone hurts us, we will get angry with this person and sometimes we don’t want to talk with her anymore.
When time passes, there is no surprise that hatred still remains.
Without doubt, we all know that it is tormenting to get furious with a person for a long time. Still, sometimes we don’t try to thaw the ice and forgive others. What are the grounds for us?
First, we may want to protect ourselves when we are injured.
We are grieved when we are hurt. Certainly, we don’t want to be harmed for a second time and suffer from the sorrow again. So, we protect ourselves from that person by not forgiving him. Under this circumstance, it is difficult for us to pardon others.
Even though we want to put a halt to the bitterness, we can hardly forgive just because we cannot confront the grievance caused by that person. Once we face the person, sorrow springs up and we may stop the intention of forgiving him.
However, although forgiving is not easy, we still need to learn it. We may think why we need to forgive somebody that failed us? The first reason is that, forgiving others may benefit not only others, but also ourselves. What feeling we usually have when we are having hatred? No matter how different our reaction is, it must not be positive feelings. When we are living with anger, we are living with pain too. Being reluctant to get rid of the anger or animus is definitely equal to refusing to spare ourselves.
Another point is that, actually we even do not have the right to detest other. As the bible says, ‘How will you say to your brother, Brother, let me take the grain of dust out of your eye, when you yourself do not see the bit of wood in your eye? O false one! First take the wood out of your eye and then you will see clearly to take the dust out of your brother’s eye.(Luke6:42)’. No one in this world is flawless, everybody makes mistakes. Once we may also make wrong decisions, why don’t er dive others a chance to repent and reform? We may try to forgive others, in order to create a better world.
It is hard to forgive others because we will always remember the hard feelings and even hate the person who hurt you. The hard feelings will become a burden if you keep on remembering it. So, it is necessary for you to forgive others.
One way to forgive others is to let go of your anger. You can talk to someone you trust and let your emotions out. After the conversation, you may ask them for advice. You can also learn from their experience about how to forgive others.
Moreover, praying is another way to release yourself. You can pray and tell lord what you are suffering. After that, you can ask the lord what you can do. It is easier for you to find the answer through reading the bible, as there are many stories about forgiveness.
Always remember, ‘everyone makes mistakes including yourself’ . So, we should try to forgive others.
Because of the above reasons, we agree with Morrie’s quote, That’s the end of our sharing. Thank you!
